Lessons at Country Hill Farm

Country Hill is a full-facility equestrian centre, yet quiet and relaxed. Attention is individual. Students are allowed to proceed at their own pace. And horses used are privately-owned and school masters, cooperative and ideal for learning to ride properly.

Private lessons are 50 minutes in length and are $70 (tax included). 30 minute private lessons are $50, while semi-private lessons are $50 hourly. Please note that a firm 24-hour cancellation policy is in place.

Horses and tack are provided, of course, but the rider is expected to bring her own safety-approved riding helmet and boots. We provide safety stirrups on school saddles. Breeches are advisable, but jeans or stretchy pants will do.

Kathy Fremes is a certified coach through the Equine Canada (EC) and the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) level 2 and is qualified to mentor other coaching candidates.

She has owned and operated this 30-horse facility for over 20 years and taught riding since she was 17. Kathy has been involved in the equestrian industry for over 30 years, first as a rider and three-day event competitor, and later as an instructor and stable manager, caring for 50 horses for over 7 years. She believes that the relationship with a horse starts on the ground and places an emphasis on good animal husbandry. Kathy wants her students not just to be good riders, but good horse people too.

At Country Hill lessons are fun for students of all ages and stages. Unlike most environments, we specialize in individual or semi-private lessons that are ideal for learning with certified coaches and horses that are school masters. Also, we offer schooling outside the confines of our indoor and outdoor rings--students can take advantage of the cross-country course or grass dressage ring or the network of trails in our beautiful "Green Belt" farm--far away from high rises, highways and subdivisions--but only 30 minutes from Toronto.

Ah the thrill of competing at your first horse trial! Only 10, Annick Niemuller on board school pony Fraxi has clearly caught the bug!

Testimonials from Satisfied Students

"Alexandra is feeling confident and challenged in a way she never has before and the improvement in her riding skills in the short time she has been working with your new coach, Jessica Glassford, are huge. It is fantastic to see how she can't wait for her next ride....Oh and by the way, Alexandra absolutely loves the Jess Phoenix clinics."
  Christopher Hilkene (father of Alexandra)

"After seeing the death of the actress Richardson, it is a constant reminder of the use of helmets in riding. I am so glad that I went and bought all new helmets after you mentioned I should as they were all old. There's wear and tear on helmets and just cracking or something we cannot even see because of age... It honestly was something I never thought about until you mentioned to me personally... You have been the Safety Queen always! This is one of the reasons always loved riding at Country Hill Farms."
  Sandra Napier

"Laurie, I have to thank you a million times for telling me about Kathy Fremes & Country Hill Stables. I started riding there in January and I am in heaven! I'm in love with Josh (I took his picture today) and I have learned so much in a few lessons. I had resigned myself to not being able to progress any further. Now I smile all the way home. You're a darling!"
