Young children will quickly fall in love with our small pony with a big personality. His small size, standing slightly taller than a largeNewfoundland dog and sweet disposition makes introducing small children to the sport of riding smooth and comfortable. We will provide a certified riding helmet for new riders but do suggest purchasing one for those intending to continue riding.

When can I start riding lessons?

As many parents already know, introducing children at an early age to any sport can be very beneficial to fitness and overall character growth — and it’s a whole lot of fun.  Accomplished rider and mother Gillian Livingston sat her son on a pony when he was four and both take lessons at Country Hill Farm, 30 minutes north of Toronto near Stouffville: “Riding requires coordination and starting early helps that. But I think you have to go slowly with kids and only go at a pace that they’re comfortable with.”

The best type of instruction for the very young is a “lead line” lesson, where a quiet pony is guided by a certified coach or instructor. The parent may be close at hand as the “side walker” to help the child balance and for security and the lesson takes place in a controlled, enclosed environment. Safety equipment and procedures are adhered to at every step.  Most important, is a well-fitting riding helmet, suitable for a little head!

"I had my wedding reception on the beautiful grounds of Country Hill Farm and everyone had a blast. Especially all the toddlers who participated in the pony party. That was certainly the highlight for the kids, and probably their parents too!"
